Finding Kenny

FLASH FRIDAY CHALLENGE: 100 WORDS

PHOTO PROMPT ©SARAH POTTER

“Gloves – Check.”

“Scarf – Check.”

“Hat – Check.”

“What’s missing?” Glenn asks, peering over the coffee table.

The room was a sea of matchbox cars and Legos. “A Carrot!” he remembers.

He races into the kitchen. “Hey, Kenny, wanna build a snowman?”

Kenny watches from his wheelchair in discontent.

“C’mon. It’ll be fun,” Glenn persists.

He kneels down and buttons Kenny’s coat for him and wheels him outside.

Kenny hesitates. But once the first snowflake hits his warm face, a smile cracks. He hasn’t done that in weeks. Not since the accident.

And in that moment, he was his old self.
