FLASH FRIDAY CHALLENGE: 100 WORDS

PHOTO PROMPT ©DALE ROGERSON

Samuel runs his finger along the curve of his crisp, white collar. He rolls his sleeve back, revealing his watch. Two minutes.

His hands shake in anxious perspiration.

He reaches in his pocket and clasps the cool metal of his grandfather’s rosary. The beadwork had long worn off, and the links tended to break, but it was reliable.

“Lord, let today be marvelous,” he prays, pacing the room.

He looks down the hall. It’s time.

He approaches the alter with poise. But his heart skips when the organ strikes up.

There she is, behind the veil, his high school sweetheart.
