A Melody of Memories

FLASH FRIDAY CHALLENGE: 100 WORDS
PHOTO PROMPT © Björn Rudberg

People from all over came to drown their sorrows in cocktails and ale. A dense smoke cloud hovered above.

Sam sips his scotch and places his sweaty glass on the table. He gives the pianist a nod and raises his bow. The room sings and the people quiet their stories.

He plays for the beautiful brunette in the fitted black dress with red-stained lips.

“Sam! Sam!” She shouts and waves.

“Sam!”

He opens his eyes. His grey-haired wife of 62 years holds his hand. Machines sing in the hospital room.

“The surgery was a success. The cancer’s gone,” she exclaims.
