Kimmy hugs her knees tightly as she balances on the steep rooftop, glaring at the old foster home. A shiver creeps down her spine. She holds herself tighter.
How much longer before they notice she’s missing? What will happen if she’s caught?
A siren echoes throughout the darkening sky. A distress signal to alert the village of a lost child. She’s no longer safe. But then, she hadn’t been safe for months.
She leaps across cottage tops as she makes her way to the next town, fueled by fear, adrenaline and desperation. Carrying nothing but her teddy bear.
